Immigration Political Cartoon

This Political Cartoon Reminded me of the Puritans on the mayflower because of the man's reluctance to abandon his previous custom and adapt to our American one. The mans shirt says, "viva Mexico down with USA" and yet he says he wants to become an American. The Puritans on the Mayflower might not have wanted to leave their homes in England, but they knew they would have a better life there.

Diary Entry as a Puritan on the Mayflower

Dear Diary,
Today it pleased our Lord to Send a mighty storm to our humble vessel. The Mayflower didn't agree to it and tossed and turned something terrible. It pleased the Lord that none of us died except for a few drowned rats. These rats were eating our food so perhaps this storm was a blessing in disguise. Thank God for that storm. I only wish it would please God to make my mother less seasick, she always is leaning off to starboard soiling Gods bountiful ocean. She hasnt slept in weeks. Also I saw a rainbow after the storm. It was a sign from God telling me never to lose my faith.

Why that Passage from Of Plymoth Plantation Impressed Me

This passage impressed me because it gave me a glance at the thought process of these Puritan men. After all the hardships they had worked hard to endure on the Mayflower the one thing they had to say about it was praise the Lord and may He protect us forever and I cant wait to tell my kids about this. It was a really interesting insight and thats the reason it impressed me.

Passage From William Bradford's "Of Plymoth Plantation

What could now sustain them but the Spirit of God and His grace? May not and ought not the children of these fathers rightly say: "Our fathers were Englishmen which came over this great ocean, and were ready to perish in this wilderness; but they cried unto the Lord, and He heard their voice and looked on their adversity," etc. "Let them therefore praise the Lord, because He is good: and His mercies endure forever." "Yea, let them which have been redeemed of the Lord, show how He hath delivered them from the hand of the oppressor. When they wandered in the desert wilderness out of the way, and found no city to dwell in, both hungry and thirsty, their soul was overwhelmed in them. Let them confess before the Lord His loving kindness and His wonderful works before the sons of men."

Thesis Statement

In the excerpt of Of Plymoth Plantation by William Bradford, the Pilgrims use their Courage,Strength and Preserverance along with their never ending Reverance to God to successfully Traverse the Atlantic Ocean and make it to The New World, where they will start their new colony.
